Undergraduate Research Assistant

Believe it!

I'm a second year student at the University of Florida, majoring in Astrophysics and Geology. I am involved in research within the Department of Geological Sciences here at UF. Go Gators!

Research

I am currently involved in research in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida. I am in the "Life on the Edge" Lab, with Dr. Amy Williams as my research mentor. This is my first research project.

Our research focuses on organics detection in these ancient samples with TMAH thermochemolysis as is available on the SAM and MOMA instruments on the NASA Mars Curiosity and ESA ExoMars rovers, respectively. In this study, a suite of Precambrian cratonic rock samples from a variety of locations on Earth are used as Mars analogs to understand (1) how ancient cratonic samples respond to TMAH thermochemolysis, and (2) how successful a TMAH thermochemolysis experiment on ancient Martian bedrock might be.
